Here at Milly Grace we pledge our commitment to contributing to a circular economy, a healthy and happy planet and pride ourselves in being an eco-conscious brand; through the sourcing of our recycled 925 sterling silver, FSC certified recyclable branded packaging and recycled thank you notes! Today, we want to tell you a little bit more about our jewellery composition and the importance of using recycled metals in jewellery production.
Recycled 925 Sterling Silver
As we all know, silver is a limited resource, because of its rarity and short supply it has a measure of value, after all silver was man’s first currency through the first millennium. However, the demand for silver is growing rapidly, increasing by 24% over the past 10 years, with the global silver production through mining coming to some 27,000 metric tonnes last year, alone.
Unfortunately however, mining is a one of the major contributors to climate change. Mining emits an eye watering volume of greenhouse gasses and the chemicals used in the process cause dangerous amounts of erosion, contamination to ground-water, soil and surface water, and in turn contributing to a devastating loss of biodiversity. Although this can in no way be reversed, contribution to this can be restricted...
That’s why, here at Milly Grace, we only use 925 Sterling Silver which has been recycled. That means all our silver jewellery has had a previous life, likely in the form of unwanted jewellery, or unused electronic and medical equipment. Recycled silver is therefore the perfect way to contribute to a circular economy and cut down on our impact on the planet, without compromising the quality and durability of our jewellery!
We are always looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment - we would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on how we can improve! Please email us at Emily@millygrace.co.uk with your ideas and the opportunity to receive one of our beautiful pieces.
Love, Milly x
